About us & our copper water fountains
Blue Water Fountains was established in 1993. Our same team of professionals continues to provide unique copper water fountains found nowhere else in the world. We served only the local market until 1999 when the "world wide web" made it possible for us to offer our one-of-a-kind copper water fountains to people all over the US, and we have now shipped fountains to almost every state. Blue Water Fountains is your exclusive source for unique copper water fountains designed by Steve Rayman. Our copper water fountains are made of 24-ounce copper. In the metal industry it is .031 gauge. This is atypical in the business as most garden fountains are made of either "shim", which is so thin that it can only be soldered because it can't withstand the high temperatures of the welding process, or 16 ounce which, though adequate, is not as durable and is more easily damaged during shipping and during installation and use. For many years we used 16-ounce copper but once we started shipping and other people were installing the fountains, we thought it prudent to make them more resistant to damage when handled by folks unfamiliar with them. Also, we braze with an alloy-brazing rod to connect the copper pieces. This, along with the heavier copper makes for a strong finished product able to withstand several lifetimes in the garden. Non-ferrous metals, of which copper is one, are not susceptible to corrosion. The patina, which we apply in the shop and nature provides over time in the environment, in fact protects the copper from damage as does the water flowing over the surface. The typical height for the copper water fountains is 60 inches. This seems to be the height most visually appropriate in the average garden setting. Of course we have done some that were 10 feet or more but that is usually a commercial site application. The overall look of the copper water fountains is one of simple geometries. This makes them timeless in the visual sense, we believe, and appropriate with any garden style. This, along with the green patina we apply to the surface of the copper, allows them to compliment even the most traditional gardens. When we started making fountains some 25 years ago, about the only thing available on the market was concrete or cast iron unless you wanted to spend a lot and go with bronze. What we try to do is give people the look of bronze in a very sculptural form but for less money. And because they are not cast, every one is unique is the strictest sense of the word. There is no mold so no two can ever be the same. Only the style is repeated. And for those who want even more exclusivity, we can always design something to fit just one persons requirements or taste. |
